An Introduction to BrickworkDuration: 1 hour (RIBA approved) This presentation has been designed to provide information on the basic principles of brickwork for those new to specifying brickwork, or for those requiring a ‘back to basics’ refresher. The presentation addresses different techniques of manufacturing bricks to provide a variety of finishes and appearances. Durability, mortar and the importance of setting out to brick dimensions are covered, along with an overview of DPC’s, basic principles of movement and also the use of special shapes. It concludes with a look at some of the innovations in clay that Ibstock has to offer. | ![]() |
An Introduction to Rail ProductsDuration: 45 minutes This CPD covers the full range of Network Rail approved C/1 troughing along with all of the ancillary components Ibstock can offer. It also looks at the innovations the company is currently working on within the rail supply chain including low carbon concrete. |
An Introduction to Structural ProductsDuration: 45 minutes This CPD covers the three main Retaining wall products offered – Stepoc, Slopeloc & Keystone. It provides information on each of the systems, the way they can be used and case studies of previous projects. The CPD also covers the bespoke precast options available. | ![]() |
Achieving Quality BrickworkDuration: 1 hour (RIBA approved) Achieving Quality Brickwork looks in detail at the requirements of relevant Codes of Practice and their implementation in the construction of the cavity wall. Both good and bad examples of cavity walling will be shown to illustrate the need to properly supervise brickwork during construction. |
Designing for MovementDuration: 1 hour (RIBA approved) This seminar looks at the essential considerations that must be given to brickwork to accommodate movement – the largest contributor being expansion and contraction due to changes in temperature. How this movement is accommodated, together with materials for movement joint fillers and sealants, is discussed with illustrations of both good and poor examples. | ![]() |
Durability of BrickworkDuration: 1 hour (RIBA approved) The presentation outlines the key design considerations and applicable criteria to maintain long-term durability and satisfactory appearance of brickwork. It looks at exposure, British Standards, correct brick selection, mortars, jointing etc, together with the necessary detailing of DPCs, cavity trays, parapets and copings to produce durable brickwork. |
Innovations in BrickworkDuration: 1 hour This presentation is designed to provide information on the innovative products that Ibstock has introduced, providing details not only on what benefits the innovations can offer specifiers and their clients, but also how they can be used in practice. | ![]() |
Brick Factory Tour(RIBA approved) In addition to the above CPD Seminars, factory tours are available. Ibstock has multiple clay factories nationwide and the tour, which can be held at any factory, follows the manufacturing process from start to finish. Within the group a variety of processes can be seen ranging from traditional hand-making and clamp firing through to extruding bricks and the latest tunnel kilns. |
