A haven of calm in the city, the lane is still open only to foot-traffic although it used to bustle with greengrocers, fish and chip shops, boot makers and confectioners. Here, Castrads' customer Louisa has created an interior that celebrates the heritage of the lane and its connection to the water.
Louisa used a reclaimed shopfront panel to divide the dining and living spaces. An antique set of haberdasher’s drawers also links back to the days when the houses on this row had shops below and living spaces above.
Layering whites and neutrals in her airy scheme, Louisa chose Farrow & Ball Cabbage White, with a tinge of blue in the undertone, for the glazed screen. On the Emmeline radiators she picked Farrow & Ball Ammonite “the absolutely beautiful colour of Dorset fossils”. In this space, Emmeline’s scalloped topline evokes lilting waves and seashell textures.
A collection of shells from a beach in County Sligo is arranged delicately on the mantelpiece, alongside Leach pottery from St Ives. Louisa keeps her copy of Turner’s Skies Sketchbook on display, a key source of inspiration for her home.
Continuing a sense of the shoreline into the kitchen, delicate Devol lights combine with a serene seascape and a Mathilda Goad-style giant clam shell.
Nathan, one of Castrads' consultants based at Castrads Fulham Road, visited Louisa before she finalised her choices.
“My home consultation with Nathan was really helpful and informative. Nathan provided inspiring ideas and explained how to best tailor the height and width of each individual radiator to suit each space perfectly.”
