Stelrad Radiators has provided the radiators for the heating system upgrade incorporated in an independent living development in York. It’s a major refurbishment of the original building at Glen Lodge in York, built in the 1970’s before a £4 million extension was added in 2018.
The development offers 57 apartments in the main building and a further 12 bungalows in a small cul-de-sac. All the flats and bungalows are designed to ‘Housing our Aging Population Panel for Innovation’ standards and best practice standards in dementia friendly environments. The refurbishment of the original building sees homes within it benefiting from complete rewiring and replumbing, the installation of a new heating system compatible with a low-energy, and low-carbon air source heat pump, increased levels of insulation, new double-glazed windows and replacement kitchens and bathrooms.
“We’re delighted to have been involved in the work at Glen Lodge,” says Stelrad’s Regional Manager Lewis Aird. “We’ve supplied more than 200 of our aesthetically pleasing and highly efficient flat fronted Planar radiators to share the heat generated by four existing gas boilers. The system has been designed with radiators properly sized for each room so they can provide more than adequate levels of comfort heating that the elderly residents in the community need in the colder months of the year. By installing radiators appropriate for use with a heat pump in the future, we have future-proofed the heating system ready for the transformation from gas to a heat pump when the existing boilers are no longer viable. It’s been a pleasure to work with the installation team and we’re delighted with the end result – a new heating system with our radiators looking and proving to be an important part of the newly refurbished building.”
